Chios Mastiha is a natural resin derived from the Pistacia lentiscus var. Chia, a tree that grows exclusively on the Aegean island of Chios, Greece. Scientific studies have demonstrated its powerful anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory, and healing properties. It also offers significant benefits for both body hygiene and skin care.
Renowned for its unique qualities and extensive uses since ancient times, Chios Mastiha continues to be a versatile product. Today, it is widely used in pharmaceuticals, perfumes, cosmetics, beverages, baked goods, sweets, and cooking.
Mastiha is harvested from the resin of the mastiha tree, locally known as skinos. By carefully making small incisions in the bark, the tree releases its resin in tear-like droplets. Initially a sticky, transparent liquid, the resin hardens into irregular shapes after about 15 days.
What makes Chios Mastiha exceptional is that these trees only thrive in a specific area of Chios known as the Mastiha Villages. The product holds a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status to safeguard its unique geographic origin. Thanks to its remarkable health benefits and varied applications, Chios Mastiha remains highly valuable in cooking, confectionery, beverages, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics.
For Gastrointestinal Issues: In a 1/2 liter bottle of water, add 2-3 medium-sized pieces of mastiha and let them sit overnight. The next day, drink the water throughout the day until it’s finished. You can also chew the mastiha pieces during the day. This practice is highly beneficial for both the stomach and intestines.
Recipe for Stomach Ulcers: Each morning, take 1/2 teaspoon of mastiha powder mixed with 1/2 glass of water for two months or longer, if necessary. To prepare the powder, use a mortar and pestle. Avoid using a spice grinder or food processor, as the sticky, gummy texture of mastiha can damage the blades!
Mastic is a 100% natural product NOT A MEDICINE so if you have problems you will follow your doctor’s advice . That means that NOT all the pieces of mastic are the same. Some pieces are bigger, some are smaller, some are harder and some are softer.
